Letter: There are many great days ahead

Dear Editor,
In these unsettling times, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. We are all concerned for the well-being of our loved ones, while being inundated with important, yet troubling, public health updates and news of a weakened economy. To say that uncertainty abounds would be an understatement. While this is a time where it feels harder than ever to be optimistic, optimism is exactly what we need most. With that in mind, we wanted to take a moment to express our on-going appreciation for the incredible community – both Inverness and Cape Breton – that we call home.

We are tremendously grateful to live in a place that comes together when things get tough. The front-line workers at the hospital, the manor, and the pharmacy continue to work tirelessly to ensure that everyone is healthy and safe. We are also heartened to hear of the community members who are mobilizing to increase the services provided by the local food bank. The team at the co-op continues to have the shelves stocked, and the store immaculately clean, while going about their day with the same good nature and sharp wit that we have come to expect. In a time where it’s important to find the small victories, I’m also still amazed at how they remember all of those member numbers!!!
We have heard amazing stories of support and friendship, strength, perseverance, and positivity. While none of these are surprising in this community, all of them continue to make us immensely proud to call this place home. The goodwill, kind nature, and tremendous fortitude on display from those providing health care and ensuring that people have access to the medication, food, and essential supplies that they need, is incredibly appreciated, and won’t be forgotten.
To everyone leading the charge on behalf of your community members, thank you for all that you do. Thank you for your efforts; thank you for your drive; and thank you for your leadership. You should be incredibly proud of the positivity and optimism you are instilling in this community and we will continue to do what we can to show you how proud we are of you, and how grateful we are to be a part of this special place.
Please stay safe and be well. There are many great days ahead!
