Whitecaps Teal come out on top in U15 A clash with Whitecaps Black

Whitecaps Teal goaltender Skylar Condo was the busiest of the two goalies in Saturday’s U15 A Whitecaps clash between Black and Teal, holding the final score to 1-1 at a freezing Inverness Arena.

The two Quad County Whitecaps U15 A teams went at each other hard, in a pair of league games on Saturday.
In the opening game of the doubleheader at the absolutely freezing Dr. Bernie MacLean Cultural and Recreation Centre in Inverness, the home-ice Teal and the visiting Black battled to a 1-1 tie.

But when the two teams met again later in the day, it was the Teal coming out on top 4-1.
The first period was scoreless in game one, but the Black came hard in the second, pinning the Teal in their own end before Mae Leuschner got one past a diving Skylar Condo in the Teal net. Meghan MacFarlane assisted on the goal.
The Teal had their powerplay unit on the ice midway through the frame when Lyla Rae MacKinnon scored, to tie on a set-up by Kaelyn MacLeod.
And in the third, Condo and her goaltending counterpart Cydnee Durley kept blank sheets to preserve the 1-1 tie.
“Skylar was definitely the difference in the game,” said Whitecaps Teal coach Gordie MacLean.
“It’s been a problem for us all year, scoring goals,” he said. “We score from all angles at practice. We need to be hungrier on the puck and win the battles. Eventually, the puck will start going in for us.”
    No sooner said, than done.
The Whitecaps opened the second game on fire, scoring three first-period goals on the way to the 4-1 win.
Mya MacLean started it off at 5:23 on a play with Payton MacLean and Callie Samson.
Annabelle MacDonald scored the eventual game-winning goal at 12:54, assisted by Maggie MacNeil.
And with 56 seconds left in the first, MacKinnon made it 3-0 on a play with MacLeod and MacNeil.
Jaida Breen scored the lone goal of the second period, unassisted, to put the Whitecaps Black on the board.
And in the third, Annabelle MacDonald got her second of the game with 12 seconds left on the clock, assisted by Aliceon MacLean.
Condo was in goal for the win, with Durley taking the loss.
The 4-8-4 Teal are off this weekend and resume league play on Saturday, Feb. 15, with a doubleheader against the 8-5-2 Metro East Ice. Game times are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood.
